Kia and Hyundai drivers can claim payments from a $145 million settlement due to inadequate theft-prevention features, with up to $3,375 available for totaled cars, along with smaller amounts for anti-theft devices and insurance costs, and the deadline to apply is January 11, 2025.
Kia and Hyundai Drivers Can Claim Up to $3,375 from $145 Million Settlement Over Theft Issues
According to The US Sun, millions of Kia and Hyundai drivers are eligible for payments from a $145 million settlement after complaints that these cars lacked adequate theft-prevention features. Drivers whose cars were totaled can receive up to $3,375, with smaller amounts available for insurance-related costs and anti-theft devices. The companies agreed to this settlement to avoid long legal fights and help affected car owners, though they did not admit to any fault.
The problem arose from a TikTok trend where people stole Kia and Hyundai cars by bypassing their old ignition systems. To address this, the car makers have started offering free upgrades to improve security and are providing free steering wheel locks. The deadline to apply for these payments is January 11, 2025, and drivers must show they owned or leased a qualifying vehicle between 2011 and 2022.
