Apple Begins $50 Million Payouts for Defective Butterfly Keyboards on MacBooks: Checks Range from $50 to $395
According to Mashable SE, Apple has started paying out $50 million in compensation for problems with its butterfly keyboards on MacBooks. Customers who had repairs done are getting checks between $50 and $395, based on the amount of work needed. Some people, like 9to5Mac’s Michael Burkhardt, have already received their payments.
The butterfly keyboards, which were introduced in 2015, had issues where keys would get stuck, break, or stop working due to dust and debris. Apple initially tried to fix the problem by replacing the defective keyboards with the same design, but this didn’t solve the issue. In 2019, Apple switched to a different keyboard design in response to customer complaints.
