Known for its vast expanse and lively culture, the Lone Star State is a favored destination. However, some areas are less desirable due to high crime rates and susceptibility to natural disasters like hurricanes and flooding. These factors were considered when compiling a list of the worst places to live in Texas. Whether you’re planning a move or are just curious, this list may be of interest to you.

Most Dangerous Places to Live in Texas

Freeport

Next up is in Brazoria County with its population dropping to 10,696 in 2020. Freeport faces economic difficulties and vulnerability to hurricanes.

Weslaco

Ranking 18th is in Hidalgo County with a population of 41,103. Like many border towns and Weslaco grapples with economic challenges and elevated crime rates.

Galveston

A coastal resort city ranks 17th. While it draws tourists residents face the constant threat of hurricanes and flooding.

Vidor

In Orange County and this small city deals with socioeconomic issues and higher crime rates.

Wharton

The county seat of Wharton County ranks 15th. Its declining population and economic struggles make it challenging to thrive.

Palmview

Part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission metro area. Its proximity to the border and economic hardships contribute to its ranking.

Center

In Shelby County takes the 13th spot. With a small population of 5,221, Center faces typical rural challenges.

Robstown

A western suburb of Corpus Christi is ranked 12th. With a population of 11,487 it struggles with economic and crime-related issues.

Corsicana

Ranking 11th is in Navarro County. Despite its historical importance and it deals with economic and crime problems.

Paris

As the county seat of Lamar County with a population of 24,171, Paris’s economic difficulties and higher crime rates are notable.

Beaumont

A coastal city in Jefferson County, ranks 9th. With a population of 115,282 and its location and economic challenges make it less appealing.

Houston

The largest city in Texas, ranks 8th. Despite being a major metropolis certain areas face significant crime and socioeconomic issues.

Lubbock

The 10th most populous city in the state and takes the 7th spot. With a population of 263,930, it struggles with high crime rates and economic difficulties.

San Antonio

The second-largest city in the Southern U.S., ranks 6th. Despite its rich history certain parts face crime and economic challenges.

South Dallas

Ranks 5th. This area, south of Downtown Dallas faces notable crime and socioeconomic problems.

Cedar Crest

A neighborhood in Dallas County. With a population of 6,787 and it contends with high crime rates and economic issues.

Convention Center District in Dallas

Ranks 3rd and this area’s crime rates and economic struggles make it less desirable.

South Boulevard Park Row

The second-worst place to live is a historic neighborhood in Dallas. With a violent crime rate of 3,255 and a property crime rate of 6,492 per 100,000 people it faces significant safety concerns.
