Last week, the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits reached its highest point in a year. Jobless claims increased by 14,000 to hit 249,000 for the week ending July 27. This is the largest jump since early August of the previous year and marks the 10th consecutive week with claims above 220,000. Before this claims had generally been below this level highlighting a recent shift in the job market, according to the report of AP News.
