Round Rock Allocates $177,453 of CDBG Funds to Home Repair Program

Funds to Address Essential Repairs for Low and Moderate-Income Families

According to Kxan, the City of Round Rock has dedicated nearly a third of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to its Home Repair program to help low and moderate-income families with essential home repairs. This year the city received $642,233 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Out of this amount $177,453 will be used specifically for repairing homes. The repairs cover crucial issues like plumbing electrical work, and HVAC system upgrades. The goal is to improve living conditions for those who need it most ensuring that their homes are safe and functional.

Round Rock Resident Receives New Roof Through Home Repair Program; Income-Based Eligibility Ensures Support for Vulnerable Families

One of the people benefiting from this program is Alicia De La Cruz a long-time resident of Round Rock. She recently received a new roof through the Home Repair program after struggling with a leaky roof for years. The cost of the new roof was $8,000 which she could not afford on her own. The program provides up to $25,000 per household for necessary repairs offering vital financial help to those who are struggling. De La Cruz expressed her gratitude for the support which significantly improved her living situation.

To qualify for the Home Repair program residents’ incomes must be below certain levels compared to the area’s median income. The program first prioritizes individuals and families making 30% or less of the median income. The next priority goes to those making 50% or less and then those making 80% or less. This system ensures that the most financially vulnerable individuals receive the help they need to make critical repairs and improve their living conditions.
