Carvin Software Data Breach Settlement
Americans Eligible for Up to $8,500 in Compensation
According to the report of Marca, Americans affected by Carvin Software’s recent data breach can now apply for compensation of up to $8,500 from a $825,000 settlement. The breach, which occurred between February 22 and March 9, 2023, exposed personal details like names, social security numbers, and financial information of 356,871 individuals. Maine’s attorney general has attributed the breach to an external hacker. While Carvin Software denies any wrongdoing and the settlement aims to help those affected with expenses related to credit monitoring and identity theft protection.
The lawsuit alleged that Carvin Software failed to safeguard users’ personal information, leaving them open to identity theft and fraud. Victims could face issues such as fake bank accounts, fraudulent loans, and other misuse of their data. Despite Carvin Software’s denial of these claims and their belief in their chances of winning in court, the company decided to settle to avoid further legal complications.
