The Colorado 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office reported that Childers was found guilty on July 25 of first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Shocking Crime Uncovered in Aurora, Colorado
The search for Holeman started after she was reported missing to the Fort Collins police in late 2021. Since her last known location was in Aurora, the case was taken over by the Aurora Police Department. It was discovered that Holeman was kidnapped by Childers, Shantel Edlund, and Leo VanBuskirk in early November 2021. A key break in the case came when deputies in Douglas County recorded the license plate of the suspects’ car, a Chevrolet Malibu. The suspects were arrested in late December 2021 on drug charges which led to the discovery of their involvement in Holeman’s kidnapping and murder.
During the trial, it was revealed that Holeman had been shot in the head, with Childers identified as the shooter. Edlund and VanBuskirk, who were also involved have faced their own penalties. Edlund received an 18-year prison sentence after admitting to conspiracy to commit second-degree murder while VanBuskirk has not yet been sentenced after his guilty pleas. Senior Deputy District Attorney Corrie Caler criticized Childers, saying, “The evidence shows this defendant senselessly murdered and left her body in a remote part of the county where he thought no one would find her.”
