Early Sunday morning in Phoenix an 81-year-old man named Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez was hit and killed by a car near Bell and Cave Creek roads. Police arrived around 6 a.m. after reports of an injured person and found Jimenez dead with clear signs of being hit. He was standing next to his bike when a car struck him and then drove away, according to the report of FOX 10 Phoenix.

Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed Local Man, Leaving Community in Mourning
The driver, 27-year-old Alberto Chilel Santos was caught soon after. Police found a damaged car nearby that matched the crash. Santos showed signs of being drunk and admitted he drove away after the accident but claimed he didn’t know he had hit someone. Investigators think Santos drove into oncoming traffic and onto the sidewalk hitting Jimenez.
Santos is now facing serious charges, including manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. Neighbors said they heard the crash and thought a mailbox had been hit. The death of Jimenez has deeply affected the community and police are still looking into what happened.
