Alnath Oliver Admits to Killing Newborn Daughter, Sentenced to Prison
In a sad ending to a long-unsolved case, 53-year-old Alnath Oliver admitted to causing the death of his newborn daughter by leaving her body in a recycling bin. Multnomah County court records show Oliver pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide on Friday, July 19, and was sentenced to four years in prison. In court, Oliver said he wanted to spare the child’s mother the pain of a trial and took full responsibility for what happened in 2013, according to the report of True Crime Daily.
Mom and Baby’s Killer Arrested After 9-Year Investigation into ‘Baby Precious’ Murder
The case which had worried the community for years started on May 28, 2013, when workers at EFI Recycling found a newborn baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached. The medical examiner said the baby, known as “Baby Precious,” was African American or mixed race, born full-term, and that her death was a homicide. The case went cold until 2019 when the Portland Police Cold Case Unit reopened the investigation. Using advanced DNA testing, detectives finally identified the baby’s parents and she was given the name Amara.
Amara’s mother was only 15 when she gave birth and had hidden her pregnancy from her family. She had the baby at Oliver’s apartment. Oliver had told her he would take the baby to a fire station or hospital, but instead when the baby became unresponsive, he left her in a recycling bin. Amara’s mother did not know the baby had not been taken to the hospital. Oliver was arrested in September 2023 bringing an end to this painful story as he took full responsibility for his actions and the loss of Baby Precious.
