15% Reduction in Child Poverty Rates: President Biden Pushes for Permanent Child Tax Credit Reinstatement

President Joe Biden is advocating for the permanent reinstatement of the enhanced child tax credit, which provided $300 monthly per child and significantly reduced child poverty, while many states are independently implementing similar measures to support low-income families.

Biden Pushes for Permanent Enhanced Child Tax Credit to Help Low-Income Families

According to the report of Marca, President Joe Biden wants to make the enhanced child tax credit permanent. This tax credit, part of Biden’s American Rescue Plan in 2021, gave families $300 per child each month to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. It greatly reduced child poverty, but the program ended when lawmakers did not extend it, raising concerns about its future.

In a recent speech in Nevada, Biden talked about how having reliable childcare helps the economy grow. He said that when families have good child care, parents can work without worrying about their kids. The expanded child tax credit was important in lowering child poverty rates in the U.S. during its time. Biden wants to make this credit a lasting policy, believing it will continue to help low-income families and boost the economy.
