According to the report of Marca, in 2024, many states are offering extra help for families with young kids through special child tax credits. For example, in Arizona, families can get a $100 credit for each child under 17 and an extra $25 for older kids. California offers up to $1,000 for families making less than $25,000 if they have kids under 6. If families earn between $25,000 and $30,000, they can get a smaller credit.

Other states have their programs too. Colorado gives up to $1,200 per child for families earning $75,000 or less, or $85,000 for married couples. In Idaho, families get a $205 credit per child under 16. Maine offers $300 per child and dependent, while Maryland provides a $500 credit for each child under 17 to families making $6,000 or less.

Massachusetts, Minnesota, and New Jersey Among States Offering Child Tax Credits in 2024 to Support Families

States like Massachusetts, Minnesota, and New Jersey also offer credits. Massachusetts gives $180 for one child or $360 for more than one child under 12. Minnesota offers $1,750 per child, with the amount decreasing for higher earners. New Jersey provides up to $500 per child under 6 for low-income families. Other states, including New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin, have similar programs to help families with children. These credits aim to ease the financial strain on families and support the well-being of young kids.
