FEMA Grants Available to Assist Leon County Residents with Recovery

According to TALLAHASSEE  DEMOCRAT, after the tornado outbreak in Tallahassee on May 10 residents received comforting news from FEMA. In a recent press release FEMA assured them that receiving disaster assistance grants won’t impact other federal benefits like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or SNAP. This clarification eases concerns for families and individuals affected by the tornadoes. They can now focus on recovering and accessing financial support without worrying about losing their current federal benefits.

FEMA’s non-taxable grants aim to assist residents of Leon County with uninsured losses until August 19. These funds can be used for crucial needs like temporary housing essential repairs to homes replacing important personal belongings and other disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance. Eligible residents are encouraged to apply for aid promptly using various channels including the DisasterAssistance.gov website, the FEMA mobile app, or by calling FEMA’s toll-free number. Multilingual operators are available to ensure accessibility for diverse communities and those needing specialized communication services.
