New Iowa Speed Cameras Aim to Improve Road Safety with Hefty Fines and Strict Enforcement
According to The US Sun, starting July 1, Iowa drivers are facing tougher rules with new speed cameras in cities like Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines. These cameras automatically give fines of up to $1,000 if you go over the speed limit by more than 11 mph. In work zones, fines double, reaching up to $1,000. The goal is to make roads safer by discouraging reckless driving. Fines are sent by mail or email if drivers don’t respond officially within 30 days.
Cities like Des Moines turned their cameras back on after changing laws to use them more. Drivers who get fined can go to court to argue or pay more if found guilty. If fines aren’t paid after a year, cities can take tax refunds or benefits to cover them. This shows how serious Iowa is about enforcing traffic laws and making roads safer for everyone.
