23-Year-Old Confesses to Killing Grandparents in Mt. Hermon; Deputies Arrive to Scene of Tragedy
Authorities Probe Motive as Colby Stokes Faces Murder Charges for Grandparents’ Deaths
According to FOX8 LOCAL FIRST, authorities in Washington Parish have arrested Colby Stokes 23 after he admitted to shooting and killing his grandparents in the Mt. Hermon area. The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday July 3, around 2 p.m. According to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Stokes confessed the crime to a neighbor who then called 911. The neighbor stayed with Stokes until deputies arrived. When the deputies reached the location they found two elderly victims suffering from severe gunshot wounds. The male victim was declared dead at the scene while the female victim was taken to North Oaks Hospital in Hammond where she later died from her injuries.
The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office quickly took Stokes into custody without any resistance. Despite his confession the motive behind this tragic act remains unknown. Detectives are currently investigating to understand the circumstances that led Stokes to commit such a horrifying act against his own grandparents. The Sheriff’s Office has not yet released additional details about what might have triggered the violence or Stokes’s state of mind at the time of the shootings. The investigation aims to piece together the events leading up to the incident to provide clarity and answers to the grieving family and community.
