According to The U.S. Sun, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has launched the Sun Bucks program to help families cover grocery costs during summer vacation. Eligible families including those receiving SNAP Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or food assistance on Indian Reservations automatically receive $120 per child. Families with children in schools offering free or reduced-price lunches can also qualify based on household income. Applications are open until July 1 and require basic details like the child’s name school, date of birth, address, and household income.

Using Sun Bucks for Essential Groceries Across Participating Locations
Sun Bucks are accepted at grocery stores farmers’ markets convenience stores and online retailers that accept SNAP benefits. The funds are for essential food items like fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy, bread, cereals, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks. Not covered are hot foods, pet supplies, cleaning items, personal care products, and medicines.
The USDA’s Sun Bucks program is available in numerous states, territories, and tribal regions including Alabama, California, Florida, and Texas. It is designed to address food insecurity during the summer months when school meal programs are not in session. Families are urged to apply promptly to receive up to $120 per child for groceries ensuring children can access nutritious meals throughout the summer.
