New York Man Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Drown His Two Young Children

According to PEOPLE, in a harrowing incident at a Connecticut beach a New York man was arrested for allegedly attempting to drown his two young children in the early hours of June 22. According to the West Haven Police Department an officer on patrol heard desperate screams coming from the water. Upon investigation the officer discovered Romney Desronvil a 41-year-old resident of Queens, New York in the water with his two children under three years old. Desronvil reportedly moved further into the water while screaming at the responding officers to stay back. With the support of the West Shore Fire Department the officer quickly intervened entering the water and managing to rescue the children and apprehend Desronvil. The children were immediately transported to a local hospital, where they received urgent life-saving measures.

Heroic Efforts of Police and Firefighters Save Two Young Children from Drowning Incident

West Haven Police Chief Joseph Perno later announced that Desronvil is facing charges of attempted murder and risk of injury. He commended the swift and brave actions of the responding officer emphasizing that their quick response undoubtedly saved the children’s lives. The children’s mother who was in New York at the time of the incident rushed to New Haven upon learning of the events. During a news conference Mayor Dorinda Borer and Chief Perno highlighted the effective collaboration between the police and fire departments. This seamless coordination was crucial in ensuring the children received immediate medical attention and that Desronvil was apprehended without further incident.

The West Shore Fire Department played a vital role in the rescue operation. Firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilize the children once they were brought ashore. Fire Chief Stephen Scafariello noted the team’s efficiency stating that it took only 22 minutes from the initial dispatch to get the children to the hospital and begin treatment. Both the mayor and the fire chief praised the responders for their heroic actions which prevented what could have been a tragic outcome. The incident remains under investigation as the community comes to terms with the shock and relief of knowing the children are safe and receiving care.
