New York City’s $1.2 Billion Hiring Program Initiative Aims to Boost Jobs for Low-Income Residents
According to PIX 11, New York City is launching a new plan to help people with lower incomes find good jobs. Mayor Eric Adams announced the city’s first “community hiring program” initiative. This hiring program will use more than $1.2 billion in city contracts to create job opportunities for low-income residents.
Under the initiative, companies that get contracts with the city must hire a certain number of low-income New Yorkers and people who live in NYCHA housing. For example, an estimated $1.2 billion in contracts for security guards and fire safety workers will aim to have 40% of the work hours done by NYCHA residents or people from areas where many live below the federal poverty line.
