According to 7News WSPA.com, homeowners and low-income families in Spartanburg, South Carolina are set to receive major financial assistance through a $2.5 million affordable housing program. Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) this program aims to help both new and existing homeowners who are struggling with high housing costs. City officials announced that half of the funds will be used to create affordable housing while the other half will assist families with fixed incomes. Christopher George the City of Spartanburg’s communications manager highlighted that this initiative is essential due to the city’s growth which has increased living expenses for both new and long-time residents. This effort seeks to reduce financial pressure and improve access to affordable housing as the city expands.
The program designates $1.25 million for developing affordable housing by closing funding gaps in new projects. Another $1.25 million will assist low-income families with essential home repairs and provide down payment help to first-time homebuyers. Targeted mainly at the Northside, Southside, and Highland communities this support also benefits downtown areas. The goal is to ensure all residents have access to safe affordable housing.
