Austin Energy has enrolled 66,000 customers in its discount program for low-income households since ramping up efforts in 2022 nearing their goal of 93,000 enrollments by 2025. Ronnie Mendoz and the program manager is optimistic about meeting targets as they approach mid-year,  according to the report of KXAN.

The success is credited to engaging community leaders and expanding outreach strategies. Austin Energy now aims for 83,000 enrollments by 2025, focusing on collaborations with Austin ISD to identify eligible households and streamline enrollment processes despite legal challenges.

Austin Energy Streamlines Enrollment for Low-Income Families, Expanding Access through Collaborative Efforts with AISD

Customers receiving SNAP or CHIP benefits are automatically enrolled. Austin Energy works with AISD to extend this to households eligible for free or reduced lunches aiming to simplify enrollment procedures. Mendoza remains confident in overcoming obstacles through ongoing collaboration.

Austin Energy also offers online self-application for discounts aiming to improve accessibility. Their commitment to supporting vulnerable households through effective partnerships underscores their ongoing efforts and goals for the program’s expansion.
