Doubling SNAP Benefits: A Crucial Step for Food Fairness and Community Health
According to My Twentiers.com, Steuben County is set to launch an exciting new program to help people using SNAP benefits buy more healthy food. Starting June 15, the Double Up Food Bucks program will be available at the Corning Farmers Market, Lowry Family Farm, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Veggie Van. This program run by the Field and Fork Network, allows SNAP users to get double the value of their benefits when buying fresh fruits and vegetables. For every dollar they spend, they get an extra dollar in Double Up Food Bucks up to $20 each day. This will help SNAP recipients get more nutritious foods while supporting local farmers. Liza French Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Field & Fork Network emphasized that this initiative not only enhances access to nutritious food but also strengthens the local economy making it a crucial step toward food fairness and better health in the community.
