150,000+ Homeless Problem in NYC: A Crisis of Affordable Housing and Funding – Must Know!

A group started by Marc Greenberg in 1985 helps the homeless problem in New York City. But because there aren’t enough affordable homes and the programs to help are underfunded, it’s hard to fix the problem.

Marc Greenberg’s Nonprofit Tackles New York City’s Escalating Homeless Problem

According to a published article in Business Insider, Marc Greenberg started a group in 1985 to help the homeless problem in New York City. Back then, about 20,000 people didn’t have homes. Now, it’s even worse, with over 150,000 people sleeping in shelters and more than 200,000 staying with friends or family. The biggest program to help called the federal housing voucher system, isn’t enough.

The homeless problem in New York City is mostly about not having enough homes. There aren’t enough affordable or regular homes for people to live in. Many people can’t afford the rent, and the city hasn’t built enough homes for everyone. Even though there are some programs to help, like Section 8, they don’t have enough money to help everyone who needs it.

Marc Greenberg‘s Efforts to Assist Homeless Individuals Face Challenges

Furthermore, Marc Greenberg‘s group is trying to help people find homes to reduce the homeless problem. But it’s hard because there aren’t enough homes available. Greenberg wants to convince landlords to rent to homeless people. He thinks the city should pay landlords for any damages, so they’re not worried about taking in someone who needs help. But even with these ideas, there still aren’t enough vouchers or homes for everyone who needs them.
