22-Year-Old Man Indicted for Capital Murder of Family and Friend After Jail Release
Jared Smith-Bracy Accused of Killing Grandparents, Brother, and Friend in Lake Forest Tragedy
According to the published article in True Crime Daily, a grand jury has charged 22-year-old Jared Smith-Bracy with four counts of capital murder. He is accused of killing his grandparents, his brother, and a family friend just hours after he was released from jail. The victims are his brother Jeremy Smith, 27; his grandmother Barbara Smith, 72; his grandfather Leonard Smith, 80; and family friend Sheila Glover, 71. The tragic event happened on February 23, 2023, when Jared Smith-Bracy went back to his family home in Lake Forest and allegedly started the deadly attack.

Jared Smith-Bracy Pleads Not Guilty Because of Mental Illness After Alleged Family Murders
Police Sgt. Jason Vannoy reported that officers responded to gunshots at a Lake Forest home around 6 p.m., discovering four victims dead. Jared Smith-Bracy was found hiding in the woods and arrested. Investigators revealed Jeremy Smith, Barbara Smith, and Sheila Glover were shot outside, while Leonard Smith was hit with a pickax in his bedroom. Vannoy believes the attack was planned, as Smith-Bracy allegedly struck the outside victims after shooting them. Since his arrest, Smith-Bracy has been held without bond and pleaded not guilty due to mental illness. Despite being cooperative during interviews, he showed no remorse. The crime has shocked the community, and Smith-Bracy could face the death penalty if convicted.
