Reform UK wants to introduce a tax on employers hiring foreign workers to encourage hiring British workers, help the NHS, and reduce pressure on public services.
Reform UK Plans New Tax on Employers Hiring Foreign Workers
According to a published article in the Telegraph, reform UK has announced a plan to introduce a new tax for employers who hire foreign workers. Reform UK leader Richard Tice said that employers would have to pay a National Insurance (NI) rate of 20% for foreign workers, compared to 13.8% for British workers. This tax aims to encourage companies to hire more British workers and could raise over £20 billion in five years.
The proposed tax would not apply to foreign health and care workers to protect the NHS, or to small businesses with five or fewer employees. Tice said that the money from this tax would be used to create more training programs and apprenticeships for young people. He also criticized the Conservative Party for failing to reduce net migration, which reached a record high in 2022, and urged both the Conservative and Labour parties to support this measure.

Strong Immigration Measures to Support the British Economy
Reform UK’s plan is part of a larger effort to reduce immigration. This includes stopping non-essential immigration and dealing with illegal migration by leaving the European Convention on Human Rights. Tice argued that relying on cheap foreign labor has lowered wages and productivity while putting more pressure on housing and public services. The new tax, he said, will help secure borders, increase wages for British workers, and reduce the strain on public resources.
