New Mexico Basic Income Program Provides Vital Support to Immigrant Families, Addressing Key Needs Across Urban and Rural Communities
According to the published article in The Latin Times, A basic income program in New Mexico has helped immigrant families by giving them money each month. The basic income program, run by the New Mexico Economic Relief Working Group, gave 330 families $500 each month for a year. Another 50 families got payments for an extra six months. This basic income program was different because it helped immigrants who usually can’t get this kind of help because they’re not citizens.
The money from the basic income program has been really helpful for families. They used it for things like rent, groceries, paying off debt, and supporting their families. The basic income program reached families in both cities and rural areas across 13 counties in New Mexico. It also helped with important things like finding a place to live and getting health insurance. Plus, it made a difference for kids in these families, helping them do better in school.
