Alaska Sees Lowest Rape Rates Since 2016 and Significant Drops in Property Crimes and Burglaries in 2024

Significantly, the number of rape cases reported in Alaska has dropped by nearly 6% compared to the previous year reaching its lowest rate since 2016. Property crimes have also decreased by nearly 3%, continuing a positive trend over the last four years. Burglary rates in particular have seen a notable decline of over 15%, placing them well below the national average.

Despite decreases in many crime categories, Alaska’s overall violent crime rate slightly increased in 2024, with murders rising by 67% and arson cases by over 40% since 2021. Most homicide victims were male often targeted by strangers while female victims were mainly intimate partners of offenders.
