The DWP is ending Tax Credits and moving all claimants to Universal Credit by April 2025 to simplify the benefits system.
DWP Announces End of Tax Credits, Transitioning All Claimants to Universal Credit by 2025 to Streamline Benefits System
According to the published article in Mirror, The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced it will end Tax Credits and move everyone to Universal Credit by April 2025. Right now, around 730,000 people get a Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit. New rules will stop people from renewing their Tax Credits or switching between the two. After April 6, 2025, no new Tax Credit claims will be allowed.
The DWP is making this change to simplify the benefits system. They are moving people from older benefits, like Tax Credits and Housing Benefit, to Universal Credit. This process was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic but started again last year. People will get a letter telling them when to switch and will have three months to apply for Universal Credit. If they don’t, their benefits will stop.

Tax Credit Claimants Must Switch to Universal Credit by July for Streamlined Benefits Access
Furthermore, for those on Tax Credits now, the last time to renew will be this July. After that, they must switch to Universal Credit. You can apply online, by phone, or at a Job Centre. After applying, it will take five weeks to get the first Universal Credit payment. The goal is to make the benefits system easier and more efficient for everyone.
