Gun Violence and Youth Crime Plague St. Louis

Norada, a California-based firm, identified common issues among the top ten cities, including high violent crime rates, gang violence, and poverty. To create these rankings, the firm’s research team examined FBI data from 2019, highlighting ongoing concerns despite the data being a few years old.

St. Louis Officials Push for Gun Control Amid GOP Opposition

The blog claims that St. Louis faces a severe gun violence epidemic, with significant youth involvement in criminal activities exacerbating the problem. It attributes the high crime rates to the widespread availability of firearms and limited gun control measures. According to Norada, these factors collectively contribute to the city’s overall crime rates.

Mentorship Programs and Education Key to Safer St. Louis

In response to the gun violence issue, St. Louis officials have enacted some gun control measures over the past year. They passed a board bill to regulate the open carry of guns and are pushing for another to prohibit it entirely within the city. These efforts have faced opposition from GOP leaders in Missouri. Additionally, police have reported various initiatives to tackle the increase in juvenile crime around the St. Louis metro area. Norada also recommends that mentorship programs and increased educational resources in impoverished neighborhoods could help St. Louis build a safer and more prosperous community.
