Confusion and Frustration in NYC as Families Wait for 3-K Program Placements
According to a published article in the New York Post, lots of families in New York City are confused because their toddlers might not get into the free 3-K program. The city offered spots to most families who applied, but about 2,400 families didn’t get any spots. Mayor Eric Adams promised every child would get a spot, but many families still don’t know where these spots are.
Parents are upset because they don’t know what to do if their toddlers don’t get into the 3-K program. Some families got offers for programs far from their homes, and they couldn’t even visit the places before deciding. Also, a report that could help figure out where the spots are hasn’t come out yet, adding to the frustration.

Furthermore, Councilwoman Julie Won says many parents in her district are mad because they don’t understand how school zoning and transportation work. Even though the Department of Education says more families got offers parents are still confused and worried about their kids’ schooling.
