This program called the Middle-Class Tax Refund, was created in 2022 to help people with daily expenses. Payments between $200 and $1,050 were sent out, but $125 million and 624,000 debit cards still haven’t been claimed. If not claimed by June 1, 2024, this money will go back to the state’s General Fund.
Many people had trouble getting their money because of problems with the system. For example, Carlos Soliz, a student, got $700 on a debit card but couldn’t use it easily. He tried many times to get help but kept getting disconnected. This shows that the Middle-Class Tax Refund program had issues, and many people gave up trying to get their money.
