House Republicans and Democrats Clashed Over Proposed Changes to Food Stamps
According to a published article in the Washington Examiner, House Republicans and Democrats argued about a plan to change what people can buy with food stamps during a meeting on Wednesday. Republican Rep. Andy Harris said the plan would help fight obesity by encouraging healthier choices. But Democrat Rep. Sanford Bishop said it’s better to increase food stamp benefits so people can afford healthier food.
Both sides talked about how many people are getting sick because of obesity and other health problems. They want to find ways to help people eat better. But there’s a disagreement about how to do it. Democrats say giving more money for food stamps is the best way. Republicans think limiting what people can buy with food stamps will help.
