Benton County Jury Convicts Woman of Smothering Stepmother, Sentencing Set for June 14
According to the published article of True Crime Daily, a jury in Benton County found 35-year-old Samantha Bevans guilty of first-degree murder for smothering her stepmother, Jodie Bevans, in 2022. The jury took about an hour to decide. Samantha will be sentenced on June 14 and is expected to get life in prison without parole.

Evidence and Arrests in Jodie Bevans’ 2022 Murder Case
The case began on July 15, 2022, when police checked on Jodie Bevans’ home in Palo and found her dead. Samantha Bevans and her boyfriend, Tacoa Talley, were arrested on August 3, 2022. Prosecutors said Samantha killed Jodie out of revenge for being kicked out of the house and to get money hidden in a safe. Evidence included a note saying “Kill Jodie” and a Snapchat video where they admitted to the crime. During the trial, Samantha said she didn’t think Jodie was dead when she stopped smothering her and blamed Talley for the death. But an investigator said Samantha admitted to pressing her foot on the pillow to smother Jodie. The medical examiner said Jodie died from being smothered and had injuries to her face and neck. Assistant Attorney General Monty Platz said the murder was a “slow and personal way” to kill someone. Talley was already found guilty and is serving a life sentence.
