Riverside County Supervisors Approve Controversial Pay Raises Despite Public Opposition
According to the published article in Desert Sun, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors said yes to big pay raises for themselves and other officials even though many people didn’t like it. One supervisor Kevin Jeffries, didn’t agree with the raises, thinking they were a bad idea. The other supervisors voted for the raises which could make their salaries go up by 19%, while the District Attorney and Sheriff might get even bigger raises, up to 28%.
People didn’t like the decision and said it was selfish of the supervisors to give themselves raises. They think it’s not fair to the taxpayers who might struggle with money. But the supervisors who wanted the raises said it’s necessary to pay officials more to keep good people in these important jobs even if some people don’t like it.

Riverside County Officials Set to Receive Pay Raises Despite Public Backlash
Furthermore, if the decision stays the same at the next meeting in June the supervisors and other officials will get their raises soon. This could cost the county over $800,000. Some supervisors feel weird about voting for their own raises but they say it’s important to make sure officials are paid well for their work.
