According to the published article of 4 ABC WTAE, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, the Allegheny Go Program will give 50% cheaper bus fares to people who ride Pittsburgh Regional Transit and show they have low income by using SNAP benefits. Starting on June 3, over 120,000 SNAP recipients in Allegheny County can sign up for this Allegheny Go Program. Katharine Kelleman, the boss of Pittsburgh Regional Transit, said this Allegheny Go Program is important because it helps poor people by making transportation costs lower.

Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato said buses are really important for families who need to go to the doctor, buy food, take care of their kids, and go to work. Teaira Collins, who is part of groups that support public transit, said buses are like a lifeline for many people. They help people in the community get chances to do new things. Many people gathered at an event in Wilkinsburg to hear about the Allegheny Go Program.

Innamorato said it’s important for the government to help people get to jobs by making it easier to use public transit. Kelleman said this Allegheny Go Program isn’t just about cheaper fares—it’s also about treating people with respect and making sure everyone has the right to use transportation. Sherri Richardson, who was part of a test of the Allegheny Go Program, said it changed her life by helping her find a job and home after she lost everything in a fire.
