Man Sentenced to 19 Years for Killing Girlfriend’s Father, Leaving Body in Sleeping Bag
Zachary Hackman, 24, admitted to killing his girlfriend’s father, James Harris, in 2022 and received a 19-year sentence for manslaughter and abuse of a corpse, along with three years of supervision. Portland police discovered Harris’s body on October 9, 2022, concealed in a sleeping bag along Northeast Marine Drive. He had suffered severe head injuries from a hammer and was strangled with a dog leash, according to the crime report of True Crime Daily.

Zachary Hackman Convicted for Manslaughter and Abuse
Hackman, dating Harris’ daughter and living with her, was caught on camera blocking a kitchen window at Harris’ home and moving a large container into a nearby vehicle. Despite cleaning efforts, blood evidence was found. Hackman was arrested on October 23, 2022, for murder, unlawful weapon use, and corpse abuse. Harris’ daughter, involved but uncharged, claims she was manipulated by Hackman.
