Louisiana has been ranked as the most dangerous state in America by two recent reports. Shreveport Times study placed Louisiana last in its safest states ranking citing high rates of violent crimes including the highest number of murders per capita and nearly the most assaults per capita.
Governor-Elect Jeff Landry Focuses on Crime After October 14th Victory
A similar report from Hubscore also named Louisiana the most dangerous state. These findings coincide with the election of Republican Governor-elect Jeff Landry, who focused on crime during his campaign and won the October 14th governor’s race.
Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Shreveport Among Most Dangerous U.S. Cities for Crime
Landry, Louisiana’s attorney general for eight years highlighted that Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Shreveport are among the top 10 most dangerous U.S. cities for crime. “We have a crime problem,” Landry said, emphasizing the need for action regardless of political or racial boundaries.
Chairs New Violent Crime Task Force Initiated by Sen. Alan Seabaugh
Landry plans to call a special legislative session next year to address crime as his first major action as governor. He also chairs the new Violent Crime Task Force, created by legislation from Republican Shreveport Rep. Alan Seabaugh, now a state senator.
Governor-Elect Jeff Landry Aims to Reform Criminal Justice System
“Our hope is that this task force can build a better criminal justice system, giving second chances to those who need them while addressing the serious threats from violent criminals,” Landry told The Advocate in September. The state’s crime crisis is a major challenge for his upcoming administration.
