174,187 Oklahomans Affected: USDA-FNS Approval of SNAP Benefits Expansion for Storm-Damaged Counties

After recent storms in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Human Services has expanded SNAP replacement benefits to more counties aiming to assist those who lost food due to the storms, with simplified application processes available online and in-person to ensure access to assistance.

USDA-FNS Approvement Expands SNAP Replacement Benefits After Storms – Providing Assistance to Affected Communities

According to Oklahoma News 4, after strong storms in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Human Services got USDA-FNS approval to help more counties with SNAP replacement. This USDA-FNS approval helps people who lost food because of the storms that started on April 27. People in these counties can ask for replacement benefits until May 28, 2024.

Now, more counties, like Blaine and Cleveland can get help with replacement benefits because of USDA-FNS approval, joining the original 12 counties. Nearly 174,187 people who get SNAP were affected by the storms. The OKDHS Deputy Director says they want to help those who lost a lot because of the storms by giving them more time to get replacement benefits.

OKDHS Offers Convenient Ways to Access SNAP Replacement Benefits and Food Assistance Efforts After Storms

Furthermore, to help people get their benefits more easily, OKDHS has different ways to ask for replacement cards and benefits like online or visiting offices. If someone’s home got destroyed and they can’t get a new card in the mail they can ask for it to be sent somewhere else. People who need food help can apply online or by phone, and there’s also help for those who can’t apply online. Thanks to the USDA-FNS approval, if people need more help they can call 2-1-1 or visit the 2-1-1 Oklahoma website for extra resources.
