The International Revenue Service says people have until May 17 to file their 2020 taxes and get back any money they’re owed like tax refunds and credits which could add up to about $1 billion. States like Texas, California, and Florida are owed the most money.

According to WTAJ, the International Revenue Service has a big announcement for taxpayers if you haven’t filed your 2020 tax return yet you might be missing out on a lot of money. Until May 17, you can still claim your part of around $1 billion in refunds. This extension is because of COVID-19 delaying things in 2020.

Not filing your 2020 taxes means you could be missing out on more than just a refund. There are also tax credits you might be eligible for. These include the EITC for low-income workers with families and the Recovery Rebate Credit for those who missed out on stimulus checks. But if you wait too long, you might miss your chance to claim them.
