Suspect Flees Scene After Altercation with Off-Duty Officer
According to CBSNews.com in a shocking event, an off-duty Philadelphia police officer was caught in a frightening altercation on a Sunday morning. This alarming incident unfolded around 7:15 a.m. in the North Philadelphia area specifically on the 2100 block of West Oxford Street. Reportedly the suspect managed to steal the officer’s firearm and then proceeded to strike the officer with a vehicle before speeding away in a black BMW. Thankfully, despite the chaos the officer was able to disarm the suspect and allegedly fired his weapon in self-defense. However, the suspect still managed to flee the scene leaving the officer injured and in need of assistance. Following a pursuit, law enforcement officials were able to track down the suspect in Kensington later that same Sunday afternoon. As investigations continue the condition of the officer remains undisclosed leaving many in the community concerned about his well-being.
