Ronald Maldonado, 27, from Long Beach received the maximum punishment, a 25 years to life in prison. Maldonado with prior convictions including assault was found guilty of second-degree murder for killing Larry Jefferson Jr., 24, on March 29, 2022, according to the crime report of Daily Breeze.
Judge Laura Laesecke addressed Maldonado directly condemning his actions. She stated firmly, “There’s no excuse for this crime, Mr. Maldonado. It’s shameful what you did.” Maldonado facing consequences remained composed as he absorbed the weight of his deeds.
The victim’s sister’s letter was read by Deputy District Attorney Karen Brako, expressed profound loss. She shared, “When he was killed, it turned our world upside down.” Her words reflected a family grappling with Jefferson’s absence.
The victim’s father confronted Maldonado and saying, “You took a lot from us. You didn’t have to shoot and kill him.” His words conveyed the harm caused by Maldonado’s actions.
