Louisiana Launches SUN Bucks Program to Support Families with School-Aged Kids During Summer Months
According to the Daily Advertiser, starting this summer, Louisiana will give families with school-aged kids some help buying groceries when school is out. It’s called SUN Bucks, and each eligible child will get $120 for the summer. The Department of Children and Family Services will do this in three parts. First, in June, kids who got SNAP benefits last school year will get the money added to their EBT card. More details about the other parts will come later.
The head of DCFS, David Matlock, thanked everyone who helped make this program possible. SUN Bucks will help Louisiana kids eat healthy during the summer. Kids who got SNAP or FITAP benefits, Medicaid, or free or reduced-price school meals last year will automatically get SUN Bucks. Families should check their address is correct so they don’t miss out. There will soon be a way for kids who don’t qualify automatically to apply for SUN Bucks.
