According to Delaware Online/The News Journal, New Castle County 2023 paid its top earner workers mostly from the Police Department and some office staff. The data shows that 49 workers earned over $150,000 last year, up by 10 from before, and salaries make up most of the county’s yearly budget. County Executive Matt Meyer wants to pay police more and give extra money to fire departments and medical services to keep staff happy.
The highest-paid person last year was Police Maj. John W. Treadwell making $255,782, mostly because of extra payments. Other top earners were also from the police or office roles. Even though Director of Public Safety Vaughn Bond Jr. made less this year, County Executive Matt Meyer still made a good salary. The county also had to pay a lot of overtime to make sure enough people were working, especially in medical and police jobs.
