Job Creation Initiative

According to The Business Journals, people in Pennsylvania who work in the film industry want the state government to increase the film tax credit from $100 million to $300 million. They say this will bring more money into the state and help create jobs. Representatives from different film industry organizations and unions gathered at the Capitol Rotunda to ask the governor and the General Assembly for this increase. They believe that the current tax credit has already helped the state make millions of dollars from things like hotels and accommodations.

Sharon Pinkenson, talked about how the film industry tax credit has helped the industry grow. Dawn Keezer who leads the Pittsburgh Film Office said the tax credit is important for training people in film and theater jobs. This film industry tax credit gives productions a rebate of 25% if they spend at least 60% of their budget in Pennsylvania. It has already created many jobs and brought in money for the state, but advocates think more can be done with a higher tax credit.
