The head of the IRS, Danny Werfel, says it’s really important for folks to act fast because May 17 is the last day to get their unclaimed tax refunds. He thinks some Americans might have forgotten about their refunds because of the pandemic so he’s telling people to check their records and get all their documents together quickly. If they don’t, their refunds will just go into the government’s money pot.

How to Get Your Unclaimed Tax Refund Before May 17 Deadline

Furthermore, if you’re one of those people who haven’t filed your 2020 taxes yet you’ll need to find important papers like your W-2 form from work or any other documents that show what money you made or paid in taxes. You can ask your boss or bank for these papers or use a tool from the IRS to get them for free. Just make sure you do it before May 17 or else you’ll miss out on getting some unclaimed tax refund money back in your pocket.
