Governor Newsom’s Housing Goals Fall Short Despite Efforts
Challenges Persist in Addressing California’s Housing Crisis
According to Daily Caller, California Governor Newsom promised to make more homes in the state but it seems Governor Newsom’s not meeting his goal. Since he became governor in 2019, California only got about 589,626 new homes far from the 3.5 million Governor Newsom aimed for by 2025. Even though he tried to help by giving money for building and making some rules easier like allowing more types of homes in certain areas, it hasn’t been enough. California still has a big problem with people not having homes with over 181,000 people without a place to live in 2023, the most in any state.
Governor Newsom’s plan to fix housing included giving more money for building, offering tax breaks for affordable homes, and making it easier for developers to get money from the government. But in 2023, the number of permits given for building homes dropped by 42% making it harder to build more homes. California also has other problems like high taxes and rules which are making it tough for businesses to grow and causing a lot of people to lose their jobs. This has led to even more problems like more theft and a big budget deficit for the state.

Challenges Persist in Governor Newsom’s Efforts to Address California’s Housing Crisis
Furthermore, Governor Newsom’s work to fix California’s housing problem has faced more problems. Even though he gave money and made some rules easier in 2023, there were fewer permits given to build new homes. California’s economy has also gotten worse with high taxes and rules making it hard for businesses to grow and causing people to lose jobs. This has led to even more problems like more stealing and California now owes a lot of money. Despite trying hard, Governor Newsom hasn’t been able to solve California’s housing crisis or its other big problems yet.
