Rep. Adam Schiff’s Theft Spotlights Positive Crime Trends in San Francisco
San Francisco Crime Decline Notwithstanding Rep. Adam Schiff’s Theft
Rep. Adam Schiff a Democrat from California, had a tough time during his visit to San Francisco. His stuff got stolen from his parked car in a garage downtown. Schiff who’s also running for Senate lost his luggage and had to go to a dinner party in Burlingame without the right clothes. He told the San Francisco Chronicle about it but didn’t want to talk much about the incident, according to the report of NTD.
Even though Schiff had a bad experience crime in the city seems to be going down. Reports say fewer robberies, burglaries and thefts are happening compared to before. For example, robberies went from 856 to 627 in the first 100 days of this year. Burglaries dropped from 2,384 to 1,408, and thefts fell from 11,812 to 6,118.
Mayor Breed Proposes Early Shop Closures in Tenderloin
People say these numbers might not show the whole truth. Aaron Peskin who wants to be mayor thinks just looking at crime stats isn’t enough. He says some folks might be trying to make things look better than they are for their own reasons. Peskin thinks we need to do more to keep neighborhoods safe, not just rely on numbers.
There’s still a big problem with drugs in San Francisco especially in the Tenderloin area. More people are overdosing especially on a dangerous drug called fentanyl. Mayor London Breed wants to close shops early in that area to try to stop the drug problems at night. She says it’s important to keep everyone safe day and night.
Mayor Breed’s plan is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to deal with tough issues like crime and drugs. Everyone agrees we need to work together to make San Francisco a safer and better place for everyone who lives and works here.
