Discovery of New DNA Raises Hopes for Resolution in Lake Oconee Murder Mystery
According to Atlanta News First, there is a new hope in a very old mystery involving the murder of Russell and Shirley Dermond a couple killed in their fancy home by Lake Oconee in 2014. For years investigators could not find much evidence besides the victims’ DNA. But now, they’ve found new DNA on clothes and other things in the house that don’t belong to Russell or Shirley. This new DNA could be a big break in the case.

Sheriff Sills and Dermond Family Find Hope in New DNA Evidence
Howard Sills, who’s been leading the investigation is cautiously optimistic about this discovery. Even though it’s been a long time and he’s been through a lot he’s hopeful that this new DNA might help solve the case. They’re going to put this new DNA into a big database to see if it matches anyone. They don’t know yet if it belongs to a man or a woman. Brad Dermond one of Russell and Shirley’s sons is also hopeful about this new evidence. He thinks it could finally help the police catch whoever killed his parents. As the investigation continues the Dermond family is holding onto hope that they might finally get some answers after all these years.
