California Mayors Advocate for Sustained State Funding to Combat Homelessness

Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson and other big city mayors went to Sacramento, according to published article of Hey Socal. They wanted the state to keep giving money to help homeless people. They met with Governor Gavin Newsom and other leaders to ask for the money to keep coming. Lock Dawson said the money has helped Riverside a lot and used it to reduce homelessness in the city.

They talked about how the state gives money directly to cities to help homeless people. Lock Dawson said for every dollar they get from the state they put in three dollars of their own. This means they use the money well and don’t waste it.

California Mayors Highlight Growing Homelessness Crisis, Call for Increased State Support

Lock Dawson says they help some homeless people but for every person they help six more become homeless. This means the problem is getting worse. Riverside got money from the state to buy homes for young homeless people. This helps give them a safe place to live, according to the published article of Hey Socal.

The mayors from different cities joined Lock Dawson to show that homelessness is a big problem everywhere. They say they need more help from the state to keep helping homeless people. The mayors want to prove that the money they get is helping homeless people. This will help them get more money in the future.
