Hialeah Housing Authority Faces High Demand as Americans Apply for Section 8 Housing Vouchers
The John F. Kennedy Library in Hialeah saw lots of Americans on Monday, according to the published article of CBS News. They wanted to get a Section 8 Housing voucher. The program helps with housing costs. Nearly 5,000 Americans applied that day. Many hoped to get help with their housing.
Amanda Davila is one of them and a single mom with three kids. She’s thankful for the chance to apply and got to the library early to sign up. She, like others knows how important it is to apply before the deadline.
The head of the Hialeah Housing Authority, Julio Ponce said they have a big housing problem. There aren’t enough affordable homes, and prices are too high and the voucher program is one way to help.
There were delays in the application process this was because so many Americans applied online and at the library, but everyone had a fair chance to apply and the order of applying didn’t matter.
Priority Criteria Revealed for Hialeah Section 8 Housing Vouchers: Elderly, Homeless, and Disabled to Benefit
Julio Ponce explained how they’ll choose who gets the vouchers. They’ll give priority to elderly Americans, homeless Americans, and those with disabilities. The vouchers will help pay most of the rent depending on income.
Americans without a computer could go to the library for help. They could do this until Friday, April 26th and after that they could still apply online until April 29th, at 11:59 pm. Then, they’ll pick who gets the vouchers in about four weeks.
The Section 8 voucher program gives hope to many in Hialeah and it offers the chance for stable and affordable housing to those who need it most.
