Maine had 121 violent crimes and 1,507 property crimes in 2024. It’s less than other states. But some cities in Maine have more crime. They need help.
Maine was not on the list of the most dangerous cities in 2022. But some cities in Maine have a lot of crime. They need more jobs and better programs. They need help to stop crime.
Maine wants to be a nice place for vacation. But some cities have problems with crime. Maine needs to help these cities. They need to make them safer.

Top 5 State’s Most Dangerous Cities
Augusta
Augusta, Maine is a city with both good and bad things happening. Some people are working hard to make the downtown area better but there are still worries about crime, especially theft. Even though there are landmarks and historical places to visit like the University of Maine at Augusta and the Blaine House not everyone feels safe which might be why fewer people are living here now.
Houlton
In Houlton, Maine things are a bit different. It’s a small town with low unemployment and cheap housing which sounds good. But there’s more crime here than in other parts of Maine like stealing and fights. Even though it’s a nice place to live people still worry about safety sometimes.
Waterville
Waterville, Maine is a city where more people are coming to live even though there’s more crime. There are lots of smart people here with many having fancy degrees. But there are also more thefts and fights compared to other places which can make people nervous. Even though there are more women than men here which is different people still want to stay and make it better.
Biddeford
Biddeford, Maine is an old town with a lot of history, but more people are moving in, and there’s more crime now. Most of the crime is about stealing things. Even though there are nice things like the University of New England and the La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival some people worry about safety. It’s a hard balance between keeping the old things and making sure everyone is safe.
