According to The U.S. Sun students and their families affected by a data breach at Hope College could get up to $5,000 from a $1.5 million settlement. The college didn’t protect student info well so someone got unauthorized access to it. Even though Hope College says they didn’t do anything wrong they agreed to pay to solve the problem. People who were affected have to file a claim by May 7, 2024 to get the money.

People filing claims have options they can choose a year of credit monitoring or money for breach-related costs with a maximum payout of $5,000. Alternatively they can receive a “pro rata” cash payment based on the number of claims.
